Fairfield fought its way back from a very early 14-0 deficit Friday night to take several leads over Elder in the first rounds of the 2020 high school playoffs, but the Panthers managed to sneak back on top in the closing minutes to win 42-39.
The game was played in front of a large, raucous — and tightly packed — Panther crowd in Elder’s legendary Pit.
Indians Jaydan Mayes and Kari Bivins each rushed for two touchdowns, while QB Talon Fisher rushed for one. Kicker Nick Maddy scored seven points, including a 50-yard field goal.
The Indians’ season continues, however, despite the playoff loss, due to new COVID-19 scheduling rules that allow extra games. They next play at Centerville on Friday.
